What CPT 96138 covers
96138 mirrors 96136 but for administration performed by a technician rather than the physician or QHP. It covers the first 30 minutes of test administration and scoring when two or more tests are given.
Each additional 30 minutes of technician administration is reported with the add-on 96139. The professional evaluation of the results is still coded with 96130–96133, and administration time is documented separately.
It fits test batteries administered and scored by a trained technician under the supervising provider, with the professional evaluation coded separately.
